Sonal Mansingh-Bharatnatyam & Odissi

Sonal Mansingh is an Indian classical dancer who was born on 30th April 1944, in Bombay. She is considered a Bharatanatyam and Odissi dancing guru. 

After her ‘arangetram’ in Mumbai, she started her dancing career  in 1962. She founded the Centre for Indian Classical Dances (CICD) in New Delhi in 1977.

She received high name and fame with her breathtaking dance performances which even brought her many awards that include the ‘Padma Bhushan’ in 1992, ‘Sangeet Natak Akademi Award’ in 1987 and the ‘Padma Vibhushan’ in 2003; making her the second woman dancer in India to receive such an honour after ‘Balasaraswati’.

She is a famous author for three books which were basically written on Indian Classical Dance Styles. She was nominated for the post of Member of Parliament, ‘Rajya Sabha’ by the President of India.
