Ustad Asad Ali Khan was born in the seventh generation of Rudra Veena players in Alwar, on 1 December 1937. He was a very active Rudra Veena player. He was music master of one of the four schools of ‘Dhrupad’, the Khander School.

He worked as a Faculty of Music and Fine Arts at the University of Delhi where he taught Sitar for 17 years. He even worked at All India radio. He trained a lot of students after his retirement.

He has wonderfully performed in many countries like Australia, the United States, Afghanistan, Italy, and several countries in Europe. He conducted music courses in the United States.

He received Padma Bhushan in 2008.
