One of the folk dances that is limited to a specified community is the Gaur Maria Dance which is the most popular dance among the people of the Bison Horn Maria community of Chhattisgarh.
Gaur Maria Dance
This dance is usually performed on the occasions such as birth and weddings. In the regions close to the border of Chhattisgarh this dance is performed by both the male and female members of the community.
Performance
This dance is like a procession which is carried out with loads of enthusiasm and excitement which is joyously displayed by the people. The music for the dance is produced by the beating of drums and Taal. It’s played by men. The tempo of the dance is set by the waving motion of the headgear like a bison. The women folk dance along with the men who are accompanied with long spear-like sticks that they use to thump on the ground. The performance overall praise the hunting spirit which inhabits the tribe.
Dance Costume
The costumes of the performer are very attractive. The men wear headgears having horns that are decorated with peacock feathers and beads. Bead necklaces, armbands made of brass are worn by the women to adorn themselves.

The Dhol, Mandar, and Taal are the instruments that are used in this dance.
